built around the year 1040 CE, this is one of the oldest (still standing) churches in the netherlands. as you can see it hasn't survived the centuries without changes. the nave of the church is still original but the choir is a later, gothic addition (the first stage of a huge gothic church that was never to be completed). the front of the building (including its twin towers) was blown down during a hurricane in 1682. it was replaced with the present renaissance facade.

"wouldn't not unharmed be a double negative so it would be harmed? this building looks so in tact"

and then I read your description.

I love old structured buildings. It gives a sense of antiquity and it makes us remember that there used to be a different way of life. Plus, it doesn't look as business-y.

Wonderful shot. :)
its a very interesting building, including the additions, makes it a unique artistic document!!! ^_^
like most buildings in the city, this one is much older than it looks if you look only at the front side. that's what i love about this place. every building is a history lesson in stone.
