While the newer (13th century, if i am not mistaken) city walls of the town of leuven are almost entirely demolished to make way for the current ring road, several important parts of the much older first wall around leuven (built in 1150 CE) are still standing. Mostly they can be found hiding between or behind newer buildings. These towers used to belong to a watergate that guarded an arm of the river Dijle that enters the oldest part of town here. It seems that the tower in the foreground was been maintained as part of the small complex of locks in front of it. The one in the background seems to have been turned into a house.
