The view from the Bock, the rock upon which Sigfried I of the Ardennes built his castle in 963 CE, laying the first stones of what would become the city of Luxembourg. In the middle we see where the 14th century city wall crosses the Alzette river. In the distance one can see the towers that once protected the Rham plateau.

Over the centuries, the fortifications were extended again and again untill the city of Luxembourg became one of the strongest fortresses in Europe. Much has dissapeared after the territory of Luxembourg was declared a neutral state, but what is left belongs to the most impressive fortifications in Europe.
